Sliding Back To Memory Lane

Michael McConkey (circa 1972) sitting on a Triton motorcycle (a hybrid-like motorcycle  constructed with a Norton Featherbed frame) that was considered one of the best in its day. Eventhough the motorcycle included a Triumph Thunderbird 650cc engine, unfortunately, it did not have the famous 'Bonneville engine' What a shame!
How time flies. When I wrote my last post, it was back in 2016, and now we are approaching the the end of the 1st quarter of 2017. Giving that this is a new year, let me start off by sharing an encouraging experience. I have a shoe box that has followed me around since the early 1970s. Sounds crazy but true! This particular box contained over 100 photographic slides, so I decided to purchase a Film to Digital Converter in order to bring them all to life. Half of them have already been converted, and stored safely in my laptop. What a pleasant surprise it was to see all those memories flooding back to life!

This car is named 'The Beast'. John Dodd, an engineer in England, was the owner back in 1973
A 27-litre Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine (1,650 cu in), this aero engine was closely associated with the World War II Spitfire aircraft.
Have you ever seen a car with 8 exhaust pipes? Al Gore would go nuts!
I recently tracked down John Dodd, who is now living in Spain,  proprietor of Caja de Cambios Automaticas and I hope to interview him one of these days.
Niagara Falls, Ontario 1974

Can you guess what this boat was called? Maid of the Mist

This somehow menacing slide represented our journey in an area called Behind the Falls
Another menacing photograph of the Niagara Falls. People have been known to fall in the flowing waters while taking their pictures. Thankfully I survived!
Memory Lane: Not sure what I (pictured far right) was looking for but surveying these photographs sure got me reacquainted with all the faces of my old friends as we enjoyed a picnic at Niagara Falls. Gotta love the 1970s.

My visit to Niagara Falls, overlooking the Horseshoe Falls, was a great experience and I still found it amazing how I was able to stand so close to all the powerful water cascades. What an awesome period of my life that was! Back then, I was visiting friends in Toronto seeking employment, and wanted to get a sense of whether or not I could move to Canada. At the end of the day, I was offered several positions, but decided to stay in the UK.
