Harbour Island get-a-way!

Perfect get-a-way Island

Readers of my blog will come to the conclusion that I hate snow with a vengeance! "Believe me it is true." Is there a cure for me? Yes! It's called Harbour Island. Every winter or when we have a snowstorm I become ill...I need my Harbour Island 'fix' and I start planning to have a break from the loud noise of New York, its now my dream place where I can get away from it all.

New York never sleeps

Over the years I spent my vacation not only here in the United States (when I lived in the UK) but also in the West Indies, and the Bahamas. A few years ago I received a recommendation from a friend to visit Harbour Island in the Bahamas. He explained it was perfect to get rejuvenate under the swaying palms, soak up the hibiscus, bougainvilleas, and jasmine and experience the pink sand between your toes, assimilate the perfect scenery.

He was right the hotel was great and the cat took a shine to me. I was re-energized, I indulge in the Bahamas snorkeling, we chartered a speed boat for the day, also one can enjoy scuba diving, for those who want a bit more you can try deep sea fishing, bone fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, water skiing, sailing, and in the turquoise water, it couldn’t be more memorable. Sighs! did I say a rest! A change is good has a rest. Right! So was his advice "good?"

The islands main event revolves around the sunset.

Harbour Island which sits just a mile off the better-known island of Eleuthera. The only town is Dunmore Town is over 300 years old, a Bahamian settlement with a rich maritime history, Dunmore Town served as the first capital of the Bahamas. This historic town is a unique blend of New England Architecture and Caribbean color. A good friend goes every winter, who needs friends like that?

Harbour Island’s actives are as laid-back as the island atmosphere: unwinding on the pink sand beach (Yes! it is pink). The islands main event revolves around the sunset. Locals and tourists gather by Government Dock with a cocktail in hand to watch the spectacular evening sky. It’s easy to get here by commercial airline. A variety of flights from Ft.Lauderdale and Miami, to North Eleuthera Airport just an hour away! The transfer is by water taxi (our’s was a small boat for 4).

And for those with private yachts can use the Marina. Once more a deep ‘SIGH!’ and New York will just have to do without me for a while longer. If I go missing don't call 911...
