Patrón distiller Antonio Rodriguez was present for the occasion. Rodriguez talked to the invitees about this rare tequila firsthand. "Roca Patrón is unique because it is a tequila made 100 percent from tahonas," He also told us "What makes this unique, is that we take the fiber and we use it to ferment and distill with it, so it creates complexity of the agave flavors, giving you earthiness and bitterness of the agave in your tequila." Starting my week tasting tequilas was a million miles away from my mind. but Roca Patrón had a great party and I was pleasantly surprised with a tequila of this caliber.
There was however a downside to the evening. Upon leaving the party, there was a gift bag that was going to be handed to me, but one of Patron’s marketing team stopped the person from doing so (very indiscreetly, I might add), by saying “not him!” They didn’t see me as member of the press, I guess, or someone who will eventually be talking about their brand. Well, I had no problem with not being giving a gift bag, but I did find it troubling that it should be said right in front of me. I could of been thinking about purchasing a bottle as an extra special treat. He’ll never know.
Overall, do I recommend Patron’s latest tequila to the collectors, and tequila lovers out there? Absolutely. It is highly doubtful that there is a better product of its kind in the market right now. But keep in mind what I said earlier, the bottle is being sold for a whopping $7,500. The thing is this, you’ll be in a class of your own, if you do purchase it. This is the Everest of the tequila world.
